STAR SHINING BRIGHT IN DIVISION 1 TRIUMPH

The closing weeks of the season, maybe, but there remain some important issues to resolve.

However, Star & Garter are celebrating winning the Division 1 title. Their splendid achievement which follows their Division 3 success of last season came as a consequence of remaining challenger’s Throops going down to 2-0 to Sunbury United, for whom Lewis Hurst scored both goals.

Sunbury gained a further important three points defeating FC Hoskins 3-1 with Lewis Hurst grabbing another brace to add to a Lewis Thomson effort. The win leaves Sunbury with the opportunity to overhaul Throops to claim runners up spot during a hectic end to the Division 1 campaign

Star & Garter consolidated their leadership with a 2-2 draw at Frolesworth before emphatically seeing off Glen Parva 7-0. George Himan scored his 50th goal of the season against Frolesworth with Jim Mee also on the scoresheet. He didn’t stop there, as he notched another couple against Glen Parva in a result which also saw goals from Dave Mee, Karl Towers, Daz Willis, Nick Gomez and Lee Linnett

The Frolesworth United scorers in their creditable share of the spoils were Dom Ivens and Harry Simmons.

For Glen Parva the defeat did little for their hopes of lifting themselves from the foot of the table, although a 4-3 defeat of FC Hoskins provided a midweek tonic. Danny McNulty 2, Mitchell Hall and Ben Hurst ensured a winning return to action after a period of inactivity.

The only game in Division 4 saw Oadby Owls Mens bring a halt to a five game losing run with an odd goal in 5 victory over Superfly. Karl Bailey, Danny King and Richard Hawkes ensured a winning end to the season for Owls, with Dave O Rourke and Phil Terry goals not being enough to lift Superfly higher than fourth in the table.

Many followers of the Alliance League will be eagerly awaiting the remaining Division 5 fixture on Sunday 13 May between St Marks and The Gate Hangs Well. A St Marks victory will secure the title. However a win for The Gate Hangs Well will see them crowned champions. A draw will result in St Marks topping the table, but will let Kajima, who have finished their fixtures move into second place.

The Gate Hangs Well won 2-1 in the earlier league fixture, although St Marks had the upper hand in the Stokes Cup Final winning 2-0.

Leicester Irish Centre on Gipsy Lane is the place to be for a 10.30am kick off.

Any teams wishing to join the Alliance League for Sunday Morning football action should make early contact with the League Secretary, Gordon Wells on 01949 842804.
