North Kilworth

The two photographs below have been kindly provided by the local Kilworth historian and is of interest because it is likely that North Kilworth were founder members of the Market Harboorough & District League.

Certainly the club has been a member of that League since at least the 1930's. This is confirmed by the club's name appearing on the Alliance League's trophies. Indeed, there are frequent references to the club in the Minute Books at that time.

With the exception of Walter Sturgess, all of the named players in both photographs appeared in the 1901 Census as living in the village and working as farm labourers or, in one case, in the blacksmiths workshop. They were either born in the village or nearby.

Ernest Spiers, who is the 14 year old in the earlier photograph was living at The White Lion in the village, which now sponsors a club in The Alliance of the same name.
